John Murray, age 74, of Caroleen, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.

John was born Friday, February 20, 1948 in Rutherford County to the late Golden Valley Murray and Blanche Hastings Murray. He was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1967. John worked in textiles in his younger years and then worked as a mechanic for the NC Department of Transportation for over twenty years. He also worked for the local Head Start Program as a bus driver and substitute teacher. John enjoyed fishing, working on lawn mowers, was an avid gardener and loved taking care of his pets. He was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Grayson; sisters, Betty Rayfield, Roxanne Nanney; brother, Jessie Murray and two grandchildren, Cody and Harley Rice.

Left to cherish fond memories are his wife of thirty-six years, Deb Murray; children, Tammy Bailey (Randy) of Forest City, Michael Murray (Audrey) of Rutherfordton, Wendi Burke (Jerry) of Forest City, John V. Murray of Green Hill, Amy Murray (Chris) of Mt. Holly and Chris Grayson of Gastonia; sisters, Lorene “Pete” Scoggins of Rutherfordton, Kathleen Henson (Don) of Harris and brother, Ernest Murray (Leah) of Caroleen. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

No formal services will be conducted.
