Bill Self

Bill Self, age 80, of Forest City, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Bill was born Sunday, July 13, 1941 in Many, Louisiana to the late William Dewey Self and Myrtie Ellie Wilson Self. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Bill retired from the Army National Guard after twenty-three years of service. He worked for Spindale Mill for many years before retirement. Bill was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed working on puzzles, traveling and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Self.

Left to cherish fond memories include a daughter, Sandra Scruggs (Reid) of Gaffney; stepson, Keith Barnett of Pennsylvania; sisters, Josephine Self Starks and Millie Self Wise and brothers, George W. Self and Dennis Self. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Travis Scruggs, Heather Gentry, Sam Scruggs and great-grandchildren, Travis Reid Scruggs, Jr. and Thomas Joseph Gentry.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with Reverend Ernie Cole officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
