Bobby D. Whisnant

Bobby D. Whisnant, age 83, of Forest City, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Atrium Health-Lincoln in Lincolnton, NC. Bobby was born Sunday, May 22, 1938 in Rutherford County to the late Robert D. Whisnant and Beatrice Phillips Whisnant. Bobby served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force He worked in textiles for many years and for PPG Industries for twenty-years before retirement. He was a member of Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church. Bobby enjoyed working in his yard and growing flowers. He was an avid television western and sports fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Betty Whisnant and Diane Whisnant; an infant son, Jeffery Whisnant and a sister, Lois Ward.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Mike Whisnant (Linda) and daughter, Libby Hames (Donald) all of Mooresboro; companion and friend, Elizabeth Patty; brother, Gerald Whisnant of Shelby, NC; four grandchildren, Anissa Hames-Earley (Nathan), Billy Trotter, Lisa Dyer Laughter (Wesley), Russell Dyer and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Bobby McEntire and Joey McEntire and sister-in-law, Julie Norman (David).

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Cash officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
