Buddie James Hewitt

Buddie served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1971, retiring as a Master Sergeant.  He served in the Korean War and enjoyed tours of Alaska and Germany.  His most proud service was on US soil, in recruitment at Duke University. 

Upon military retirement, he returned to Rutherford County and began a life dedicated to his community and was an advocate for those with special needs.  Serving as Director at the Rutherford Vocational Workshop and serving on the Rutherford County School Board.  He enjoyed a second career in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for more than 30 years with Ocean Lakes Family Campground.  Buddie was a 32^nd degree Mason and Shriner. 

 Survivors include the love of his life, Teresa B. Camp, her daughter Shannon Detzler (Ben), son, Jim Hewitt (Sharon) and daughter Debbie Cudd (Mike). He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kelley King, Houston King, Hailey Barlowe and Megan Johnson; 2 step grandchildren Hannah Starling and Matt Cudd; seven great grandchildren; his brother Steve Hewitt, the mother of his children, JoAnn Hewitt and his best friend Camp Detzler.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Bobby Hewitt, Morris Hewitt and Rebecca Doggett. 

Funeral Services will be held in Myrtle Beach on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.  Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00, with service immediately following.

Local funeral Services will be held on Tuesday May 21, 2024, at Caroleen Baptist Church.  Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00, with services immediately following.  A graveside service with Military Honors provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard will follow at Providence Methodist Church Cemetery.
