Daniel William McCracken

     It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel William McCracken announce his passing at the age of 93 on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Hilltop Accordius Health, Rutherfordton, NC after a very long illness. 

     Daniel was born to the late Charles and Annetta McFadden McCracken on December 24, 1929 in New Kensington, PA. He was married to the late Marian Cribbs McCracken for seventy-one years and together they had three sons and two daughters. Daniel is survived by son-in-law Donald Lucas of Forest City, NC, son Dale (Valerie) McCracken of Conneaut Lake, PA, son Dean (Jody) McCracken of Temple Terrace, FL, son Brady McCracken of Waverly, NY, daughter Dana (Mo) Moragne of Frisco, TX. Grandchildren and great grandchildren include granddaughter Lane (Justin) Rhoades and great grandsons  Blake and Avery, grandson Michael McCracken, granddaughter Kylie McCracken and great grandchildren Michael , Leah, Erika and Thomas ,  granddaughter Jennifer (Brian) Moraczewski , grandson Lee(Jessica) McCracken and great grandchildren Levi, Andi, Evan, Emmi, Gabe , granddaughter Katie Pelto and great grandchildren Aleigh, Emmett, Ella, grandson Mitchell (Jessica)Moragne and great grandsons Maverick and Micah and granddaughter Jordan Moragne. Daniel is also survived by his sister Kay Means of Mercer, PA and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter Lynn Lucas, sisters Helen Cole and Ruth Foley. 

Daniel had a thirty-year career with Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania (Verizon) and enjoyed home building, scouting, farming and church activities where he served as a deacon and youth leader.  He lived in New Kensington, Lower Burrell, Leechburg, Glenshaw, and Fombell, PA before semi-retiring to Tampa, FL where he was an OSP engineer. Daniel and Marian retired to North Carolina where he designed and built four more homes with Marian by his side in western NC well into his 80’s.  

     The family would like to thank Hilltop Accordius Health for his long-term care.

     A celebration of Daniel’s life will be conducted at a later date.
