Donald "Don" Swink

Donald “Don” Swink, age 70, of Rutherfordton, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023 at his residence.

Don was born Thursday, May 28, 1953 in Rutherford County to the late Roy Swink and Eliza Johnson Swink. He worked for Fieldcrest Mill for many years and was an avid Ham Radio operator. Don also enjoyed gardening. He had an outgoing personality who had never met a stranger. Don was a loving husband, father, “pawpaw” and “pop-pop.” He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a beloved granddaughter, Brehannah Noel Swink; brothers, Harold Dean, Earnest and Durham Swink; sisters, Dorothy Randall, Mozelle Tate and Cora Lee Hudgins.

Those left to treasure his memory include his wife of forty-six years, Janice Silver Swink; sons, Anthony Chad Swink (Bre), Thomas Bryan Swink and Jonathan Trent Swink (Jerriann) all of Rutherfordton; sisters, Helen Shires of Mooresboro, Effie Blackburn of Shelby and Marthel Matheny of Rutherfordton; grandchildren, Anthony Hunter (Keisha), Tabitha Swink Hamilton (Bryant), Brandon Trent Swink (Sarah), Bryce Drake Swink; great-grandchildren, Natalie Swink, Hannah Swink, Viviana Ramirez, Braxton Swink and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 28^th at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Elder Steven Beal officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the Ham/CB operator community for the impact they made on Don’s life. Don loved talking on his CB and Ham radios for as long as anyone can remember. He made lots of friends who meant the absolute world to him.
