Elvert Burgess

Elvert Harding Burgess, age 87, of 536 Pilgrim Road, Ellenboro, NC passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Autumn Care of Forest City, NC. He was born November 4, 1920 in Rutherford County to the late Lloyd Burgess and Osee Lewis Burgess. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of over fifty years, Lucille Ruppe Burgess, and his wife, Zarah Burgess; three brothers, Clarence Burgess, Grady Burgess, and Forrest "Smokey" Burgess, and a sister, Frances Gibson. He was retired from Duke Power after 26 years of service. Elvert was a World War II, US Army veteran who served his country on D-Day.

He is survived by three daughters, Janice Lewis and husband Ed of Ellenboro, NC, Audrey Allmond of Forest City, NC and Luanne Holcomb of Spindale, NC; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
