Hazel was born Wednesday, April 20, 1927 in Rutherford County to the late Reverend Jim Splawn and Mena Morrow Splawn. Hazel was a dedicated homemaker and also worked in textiles for several years. She owned and operated Hazel’s Ceramics Shop in Sandy Mush. Hazel was a longtime member of Crestview Baptist Church where she served in Vacation Bible School and worked in the church nursey for many years. She enjoyed sewing for her family, making beautiful ceramics and caring for her pet dogs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Howard Jenkins; daughter, Susan Roberts; brothers, Odell Splawn, Howard Splawn, Don Splawn, Bill Splawn; sisters, Margaret Brannon and Brenda Owens; sons-in-law, Wayne Nolen and Frank Roberts.
Those left to treasure her memory include her daughter, Arlene Nolen of Forest City; grandchildren, Kim Hutchins (David) of Forest City, Jamie Nolen (Jade) of Briston, Virginia, Kelly Circello (Mike) of Forest City and Megan Eason (Jesse) of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Hayden Blair (Austin), Hunter Hutchins, Liam Circello, Nora Circello; numerous nieces and nephews along with her precious pet dog, Cookie.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 22nd at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Kevin Rhom officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
