Hoyt Hodge, Sr., age 79, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Atrium Main Health – Charlotte.
Hoyt was born Sunday, February 25, 1944 in Rutherford County to the late Ed Hodge, Sr. and Ruth Brooks Hodge. He worked for PPG Industries for forty years. After retirement, he used his time to work as a handy man while doing home improvement projects for people who needed help. He was a committed servant of God who displayed a generous heart toward others. Hoyt was a member of Liberty Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, helped count the offerings and as a choir member. He enjoyed hunting, watching Tarheel basketball, the Atlanta Braves and going to dirt track races. Above all, his love and care for his family made him the best husband, daddy and “Poppy” anybody could ever have. Hoyt also enjoyed making people laugh and having joyful times of conversation. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Hodge, Jr. and sister-in-law, Joann Hodge.
Those left to cherish fond memories include his loving wife of fifty-four years, Geraldine Huber Hodge; daughter, Renee Hodge Conner (Dwayne) of Ellenboro; son, Hoyt Hodge, Jr. of Ellenboro; brother, Billy Dean Hodge (Yoshiko) of Newport News, Virginia and sister, Patsy McCraw of Henrietta; his beloved grandchildren, Alexis Conner, Hannah Conner Morgan (Trent), Leah Hodge, Maddy Hodge and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 pm on Thursday, June 15th at Liberty Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Mack Tester officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 pm on Thursday at the church.
