H.P. Lowdermilk

H. P. Lowdermilk, Jr., age, 86, of Tanners Grove Road, passed away Monday, June 4, 2007 at the Hospice House following an extended illness. Mr. Lowdermilk was born April 9, 1921 in Marion, NC to the late Herman Pinkney Lowdermilk, Sr. and Pearl Holcombe Lowdermilk. He had attended schools in Gaffney, SC, and Kingsport, TN, his family moved to Rutherford County during his teen-age years. He attended and graduated from Cool Springs High School. He played on the 1937 Championship Football Team which was the only undefeated football team in school history. After high school he attended Boiling Springs College (later to become Gardner-Webb University) where he played both football and baseball. He married Virginia Dillashaw on August 17, 1940 in Spartanburg, SC. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received during military action. Upon returning to Rutherford County after the war, he worked in textiles, he eventually worked for Fieldcrest Textiles where he retired in 1983 as Superintendent of Weaving. He was a member of Long Branch Road Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Virginia of the home; two sons, David Lowdermilk and wife Peggy of Buena Vista, VA, and Kevin Lowdermilk and wife Katie of Forest City, NC; two daughters, Judy Migala and husband Michael of Harris, NC, and Beth Teaster and husband Kenneth of Cliffside, NC. He is also survived by grandchildren, Christina Caldwell (Michael), David Migala (Sharla), Virginia Whiteside and Bobby Migala (Lori), all of Harris, Brian Lowdermilk (Michelle), of Buchanon, VA. Vince Lowdermilk (Judy), of Madison Heights, VA, Emily Glick (D. L.), of Buena Vista, VA, Lisa Childers (Randy) of Caroleen, Mark Teaster (Donna) of Cliffside, Wayne Teaster, Nashville, TN Devin Lowdermilk, Matt Lowdermilk, both of Spindale and Steve Lowdermilk, of Augusta, GA and Robbie Miller (Angie) of Harris; great-grandchildren, Tristan Lowdermilk, Karsen Lowdermilk, Ashton & Zachary Caldwell, Erin & Will Migala, Kylie & Jacob Whiteside, Cody Migala, Ben Childers, Kirsten Teaster, Samantha Ott, Tiffany & Kimmie Clements, Autumn Nichols, Amanda, Megan & Dylan Miller, and Jarrod Toms.
