James Marshall Ferree, age 90, of Forest City, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2007 at his home following an extended illness. He was the son of the late Birtsey M. and Carrie Hawkins Ferree. James was also preceded in death by his sisters, Pearle Killian, Ruby Wood, and Mabel McKinney, and by his brother, Max Ferree.
Born in Caroleen, NC on August 15, 1916, he worked on the family farm until serving his country in World War II as a member of the US Army Air Forces. After the war, he returned to farming and in 1958, began work for the Town of Forest City. In 1970, he entered the teaching profession at East Rutherford High, where he retired in 1982.
James was a humble man whose actions spoke loudly of his deep Christian faith. He loved the Lord and was a loyal member of Avondale United Methodist Church since 1927. A loving and supportive husband, father and friend, his sparkling blue eyes and lending hands will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Morris Ferree of the home and his son, James Morris "Jimmy" Ferree, of Asheville, NC.
