Jimmy Rumfelt, Sr. age 85, of Forest City, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at his residence.
Jimmy was born Friday, November 15, 1935 in Rutherford County to the late Horton Rumfelt and Lillie Williams Rumfelt. He served honorably in the US Army and was a Korean War Veteran. Jimmy worked most of his life in textiles and was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church. He was often referred to as the distinguished “Mayor of Low Bridge” by the community. Jimmy was an avid Braves fan, enjoyed gardening and going to auctions. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Adam McNeely and Christopher McNeely; brothers, Clyde, Charlie, Henry and Norris Rumfelt; three sisters, Pearl Rumfelt, Dot Ensley and Virginia Terry.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty-three years, Mittie Campbell Rumfelt; children, Norma McNeely (Robin) of Sunshine, Jimmy “Buddy” Rumfelt, Jr. (Rita) of Cliffside and Shela Trotter (Michael) of Forest City; sister, Peggy Harris of Forest City; twenty-two grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren (with one on the way), one great-great grandchild and his beloved pet, “Chipper.”
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ernie Cole and Reverend Bill Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
