Leon Mcdaniel

December 24, 1920 — March 1, 2008

Leon H. McDaniel, age 87, of 561 Beams Mill Road, Ellenboro, NC, died on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at his home.
He was a native of Rutherford County and a son of the late Horace L. McDaniel and Maggie Jane Roberson McDaniel. He was a long-time member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board and the Cemetery Committee. Leon was an U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II. He retired after 27 years of service at the Avondale Mill where he worked as a Boiler Operator and a Watchman. He had a life-long passion for farming and was an avid gardener. He will be known as a devoted Husband, Father and Papa.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Adam "Bub" McDaniel and Pete McDaniel; four sisters, Annie Mae Legg, Ollie Street Roach, Eula Jane Mode and Eva Walker. He was also preceded by five infant siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Winifred McDaniel; a daughter, Mary Phillips and her husband, Gary of Six Points; a son, Gordon McDaniel and his wife, Carolyn of Ellenboro. There are also three grandchildren, Sandy Clatanoff and her husband, Weston, of Six Points, Rayona Millette and her husband, Paul of Ellenboro and Crystal Newton of Spindale; three great-grandchildren, Katlynn Millette, Lauren Millette and Chase Clatanoff. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
