Marcus Alan Dedmond

September 23, 1949 — March 17, 2024

Dobbinsville, NC

Marcus Alan Dedmond, age 74, of Dobbinsville was a Tar Heel born and a Tar Heel bred, and now we are sad to say he’s a Tar Heel dead, having passed into God’s hands on March 17, 2024. Wonderful father to a doctor (Barnaby Dedmond and his wife, Dana, of Chapin, SC) and a lawyer (Heath Dedmond and his wife, Holly, of Durham, NC), but not an Indian Chief, he is survived by Teddy, his 10 pound special companion, his children, his grandchildren, and “not-too-half-bad-ugly” wife of 54 years, Dianne Pannell Dedmond, whose nursing skills, compassion, and proven love would put Florence Nightingale to shame. While not the Shriners Illustrious Potentate, he was the Grand Poohbah to three grandchildren that made him very proud, Darby Dedmond, Cody Dedmond, and Damien Dedmond, even if none of them were smart enough to choose to follow in the footsteps of their grandfather, aunt, uncle, and both parents and attend UNC (total of 6 UNC degrees in that group). He loved collecting used hardback mystery books, but not if they cost more than $2 and paperbacks just did not work. Even though there might be “a tear in our [sic] beer” tonight just like Marc used to sing about as the full time manager and very, very, very part time front man of the Stetson Gang and Pocket Change, we would love to see the smile on his face when he showed up in Heaven and heard God singing about “all His [sic] rowdy friends coming over tonight.”  He was also a lover of flea markets and finding a good deal. Speaking of old things that are a good deal, he is also survived by his brother, Randy Dedmond (Carolyn), of Cliffside, and his sister, Andre Dill, of Bostic. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Goulia Dedmond of Cliffside, who taught him the value of education and hard work and gave him a great foundation. This led to his top score in the state of North Carolina on the CPA exam the year he took it and an accomplished career first in accounting with Price Waterhouse, Cleveland Mills and Spartan Mills and later as the owner of everyone’s favorite trophy shop, Carolina Trophies, in Shelby. Definitely deserving of a trophy, the family would like to say a special thank you to Barbara Morrison, an absolute Godsend and angel on earth, who has been both a tremendous blessing and help, and to Rhonda Goode, Leann McDevitt,  and Katie Williams, the three best therapists on the planet without whom the last 12 years would have been much different. We would also like to say a very special thanks to Bill Fisher who took Marc on many adventures searching for books after his accident. In the end, Marc would like everyone to know that he will be thanking God for making the sky Carolina blue and that Clemson stinks (sorry, Darby), but not as bad as white trucks.

The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, March 20 at 10am at Harrelson’s Funeral Home 1251 Hwy 221-A, Forest City, North Carolina followed immediately by a funeral service at 11am in the Harrelson’s Funeral Home Chapel, and a graveside service at the Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Rutherford County Library Society (https://rutherfordcountylibrary.org/bookmobile/) so that others may learn to love the joy of reading as much as Marc did.
