Shirley Guest

Shirley Guest, age 84, of Forest City, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Henderson Care in Forest City.  Shirley was born Tuesday, May 11, 1937 in Rutherford County to the late Claude D. Godfrey and Aby Collins Godfrey. She worked at Cone Mill-Cliffside and Broyhill Industries for many years. She was also a cosmetologist. Shirley served as the Vice-Commander of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Rutherford County Honor Guard. She was a longtime member of Riverside Baptist Church and served as the church secretary and on the recreation committee. Shirley enjoyed going on camping trips with her husband.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dovie Goin Godfrey, Gaston David Godfrey and a sister, Janice Crook.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of forty-one years, Carol Guest; sister, Sudie Joy of Florence, SC; brother, Joe Godfrey (Faye) of Gilkey and several special nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 23, 2021 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Ted Blankenship officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. The family asks that masks and social distancing be observed.
