Shirley "Maw Maw" Hardin

Shirley Christine Mode Hardin, age 86, of Ellenboro, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.

Shirley was born Tuesday, July 20, 1937, in Rutherford County to the late Thomas Edley Mode and Eula McDaniel Mode. Shirley owned and operated Concord Bargain Center for many years. She was a member of Harmon Street Baptist Church and loved the Lord, her family, and her church family. She was known as “Maw Maw” to most everybody who knew her, and she had her own unique way of saying things. No matter what she was saying, she would make a rhyme out of it. Everyone knew that was just Maw Maw being herself. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wesley Hardin; son, Eddie Hardin; sisters, Mary Rice, Betty Clark; two brothers, Thomas and William Mode.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Chris Williams (Marty); a daughter-in-law, Dwala Hardin; brother, Joe “Doc” Mode; grandchildren, Clint Hardin, Mitchum Hardin, Kinsey Scruggs (Preston); great grandchildren, Hannah Hardin, Bella Perpetua, Kendall Scruggs, and many nieces and nephews.

   The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 3^rd at Harmon Street Baptist Church with Reverend Randy Church and Reverend Wayne Toney officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
