     Sybil Burns, age 84, of Shelby, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023 at White Oak Manor in Shelby.

     Sybil was born Tuesday, May 2, 1939 in Pike County, Kentucky to the late George Artrip and Rhoda Ferguson Artrip. She was a dedicated and devoted homemaker and also provided private home healthcare. She loved going out with her friends and especially trying to find a bargain at thrift stores. She was a member of Goode’s Grove Baptist Church.

      In addition to her family, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Burns; sons, Richard Allen Hopkins, Donald Ray Hopkins and William Douglas Hopkins; two brothers, Charles Atrip, George Atrip, Jr. and two grandchildren, William Joseph Hopkins and Bobby Douglas Hopkins.

     Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, JoAnn Lamb (Bobby); a son, Kenneth Hopkins (Denise), both of Mooresboro, NC, a sister, Elizabeth Fields of Mansfield, Ohio; a special niece Lorreta Whiting of Lexington, Ohio; also ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

     A visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel.  A private inurnment will be conducted at Eternal Hills Memorial Cemetery.

     Memorial donations are requested to Goode’s Grove Baptist Church, PO Box 67, Mooresboro, NC 28114.
