Mrs. Virginia “Ginnie” Sanderson Shaner, of Rutherfordton, NC, was born December 17, 1924 and departed this life on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

Born in Pembroke, NC, she was the knee baby of her departed parents, Mr. Thomas B. and Mrs. Martha Lowry Sanderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phil Shaner, Jr., and 12 siblings (Etta B., Robert, Libby, Dicy Ann, Zettie, Lucy, Johnnie, Margolious, James, Willow, TB, and Frances)

Virginia is survived by her two children: Lynne Potter of Forest City, NC and John Lowry, III (Teresa) Hendersonville, NC ; two step sons Philip Shaner (Cookie) Royce City, TX and Mark Shaner (Jane) Fairfield, IA. Five grandchildren: Tami Rhom of Rutherfordton, NC, Stacie Jowers (Paul) Taylorsville, NC, Ryan Lowry of Marietta, GA, Ashley Lowry of Easley, SC and Matthew Lowry (Morgan) Hendersonville, NC. Eight great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews that she held close to her heart.

Ginnie had a long award winning career in insurance sales and real estate in Charlotte, NC. She also served as the NC president for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. After she met her husband, Phil, they moved from Charlotte to Lake Lure, NC, where she enjoyed the peace and solitude of mountain views. She enjoyed working at Fairfield Mountains and with her church family at Rock Springs Baptist church. They eventually moved to Forest City where they developed a real estate venture and lived there throughout their retirement. They were both active in Shiloh Baptist Church continuing their love of the Lord, never missing a chance to spread the word of Jesus Christ.

Ginnie never met a stranger and always had a kind word to say to others. She was a loving person who cherished her role as mother, grandmother, special aunt, daughter, sister, and caring friend. She loved to share stories of her upbringing and family. Her love and wisdom spans over 4 generation and will leave a mark on our family for generations to come. Some of her fondest memories were sharing a horseback ride with her father and cooking with her mother. Having her family home for the holidays was extremely important to her and enjoyed baking her famous pound cake for them.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Willis officiating. An inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will gather in the church fellowship hall one hour prior to the service.

Thank you to the devoted nurses and staff of Oak Grove Healthcare Center of Rutherfordton for their many years of care.
