Wiley Harrelson

Wiley L. Harrelson, Sr., age 74, of 252 Spencer Street, Caroleen, NC, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the Cleveland Regional Hospital in Shelby, NC. He was born June 7, 1933 in Rutherford County to the late Alvin Odell Harrelson and Iva Buena Kaiser Harrelson. He was a member of the Avondale Methodist Church, the Roy Robertson American Legion Post # 423, and the Cliffside Masonic Lodge # 460. He worked in the funeral service industry for over 50 years. Wiley owned and operated Harrelson Funeral Home with his brother Harry. He was an avid golfer and he loved working on his land. He was a US Navy Veteran having served during the Korean War.

Wiley is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jo Ann Gruppi Harrelson of the home; one son, Wiley L. "Skip" Harrelson, Jr. of Caroleen, NC; two daughters, Sandra Harrelson of Caroleen, NC and Marie Thompson and husband Gary of Polk County, NC; two brothers, Odell Harrelson of Florence, AL and Harry Harrelson of Ellenboro, NC; four grandchildren, Jarred Carroll, of Forest City, Jacob Carroll, of Caroleen, and John Wiley Thompson and Maria Joanna Thompson both of Polk County, NC.
