Kent Shytles, age 62, of Forest City, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at his residence.

Kent was born June 1, 1958 in Rutherford County to the late Frank “Chunk” Shytles and Amelia Putman Shytles. He was a graduate of East Rutherford High School, class of 1976 and a member of Florence Baptist Church. Kent worked for Broyhill for several years and for CSX Railroad for twenty-seven years. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and North Carolina Tar Heel fan. Kent also enjoyed going to dirt track races and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Curt Shytles.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Amber Shytles Whitaker (Michael) of Forest City; brother, Kyle Shytles of Forest City; granddaughters, Blakeley and Brenlie Whitaker; sister-in-law, Connie Shytles of Ellenboro; niece, Summer Shytles  and nephew, Charlie Bumgarner both of Forest City and an uncle, B.L. Putman (Peggy) of Norfolk, Virginia.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Memorial donations are requested to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
