William Frank McDaniel, Sr., age 84, passed away Friday, April 15, 2022 at White Oak Manor in Shelby, NC.

Frank was born September 4, 1937 in Rutherfordton, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents. Audie Manson McDaniel and Mary Frances McDaniel; wife, Meredith Hunt McDaniel and great-grandson, Lockman Taylor McDaniel.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy McDaniel Reichal; son, Bill McDaniel and wife, Jane; sisters, Geneal Matheny and Becky Williams; grandchildren, Kurt Thomas Reichal, Justin McDaniel, Trevor McDaniel and wife, Lucy, Cansas McDaniel and family and great-grandchildren, William, Catherine and Harrison McDaniel; sister-in-law, Teresa Hunt Smith (Charlie) and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Frank was an Eagle Scout.

He graduated from Tri-High School in Henrietta-Caroleen, NC, Appalachian State Teachers College and obtained his Masters Degree from UNC Charlotte. He started his teaching career in High Point. After moving to Shelby, he taught 7th grade math and science at Shelby Jr. High from 1963 until 1971. He was then named assistant principal at Shelby High School for eight years. In July of 1979 he became principal of Shelby High where he devoted himself to his students, teachers and staff. He finished his career at Shelby City School’s Central Office in Administration.

Frank was a member of the board of directors of the Cleveland County Boy’s Club, the Salvation Army, the American Cancer Society, the Shelby Rotary Club and numerous professional organizations. He was Vice President of the Greater Shelby Chamber of Commerce’s Government/Economic affairs committee and was named Wachovia “Principal of the Year” for Shelby City Schools in 1986.

He was a member of Westview Baptist Church. He loved spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, traveling and collecting antiques.

Frank was dearly loved by his wife and family.

A private graveside service will be held.
